Walks in South East Mull Following are some fairly easy and popular
walks in South East Mull. Click on images to enlarge.
Lochbuie Stone Circle
Turn off the Craignure to Fionnphort road just after Lochdon which is
signposted Lochbuie and is a beautiful drive along the shores of Loch
Spelve
and Loch Uisg. As you approach the village the road opens out to cross a
stone bridge where it is possible to park.
Wellington boots are ideal for this short walk as this is often very boggy
and extremely muddy underfoot, even in the Summer. There is a sign on the
gate which guides you by a series of white painted stones across the firmer
ground of the field towards the woodland. Nearby you will see a single
standing stone. The stone circle is behind the rhododendrons to the left.
Return the same way.
Moy Castle
Turn off the Craignure to Fionnphort road just after Lochdon
which is signposted to Lochbuie. Park in Lochbuie village in the car park on
the shoreline opposite the Post Office. Walk east along the shoreline past
St. Kilda's Church, well worth a visit. Go through the gate on to the shore
and you'll see Moy Castle ahead. There is no access into the Castle at
present as it is unsafe but restoration
work is currently taking place to stabilise the interior and exterior
stonework. Please also note that Lochbuie House is a private residence so
please observe the footpath signs, keep dogs under control and maintain the
Scottish Outdoor Access Code. Return the same way. For more historical
information on Moy Castle and update on the restoration work please

Garmony to Fishnish
There is car parking and a picnic area at Garmony
Point
just off the A849 five minutes drive north of Craignure. Here, there is an
information panel which has details on the various birds and wildlife you
hopefully will see on the walk. Take the winding shore path from the car
park heading north. Go through a gate and keep going ahead until a
T-junction is reached. Turn right and follow the path which now leads to
Fishnish ferry terminal where there is a cafe and public toilets. Take the
path that goes uphill behind the cafe and goes into the woodland and through
a gate. At a fork take the left turn and the track emerges into more open
countryside with stunning
views over to the cliffs of Morvern and down the Sound of Mull. Cross the
road and continue to walk on the Forestry trail. Turn left to descend down
the hill at turn right at the bottom to retrace your steps along the
shoreline and back to the car park.
