Whilst walking mid season, a short sleeved shirt & light trousers should be
sufficient however warm trousers & a sweater are sometimes required for
early mornings & cool days and should always be carried. Wind-proof jackets
are always a good idea.
For early spring & late season, warmer clothes are required. The secret of
warmth is to wear several layers of thin clothing rather than one heavy
garment; the air trapped between the layers provides insulation. A layer can
be removed if you get too hot or added if chilled.
Some wet-weather gear is essential; waterproof jackets that double as
wind-proofs and waterproof trousers are useful. Waterproofs that are sprayed
several times a year with Scotch Guard cause rain to bead on the surface of
the fabric. Material that breathes was pioneered by “Gore-Tex”. This keeps
the rain out & “breathes” to prevent or reduce condensation caused by body
heat on the inside of the garment.
Hats are advisable for those who are sensitive to sun wind & rain.
Be prepared for rainy weather and muddy footpaths. Wet-weather gear is
important.

Stout Walking boots with a good tread should be worn. Jogging shoes do not
support the ankle and the sole is too slippery. Trainers and lightweight
shoes won't cope with the rougher or wetter ground and could be dangerous in
steeper places.Walking socks that have wicking effect are ideal as are cotton rich socks
for hot weather wear, talcum powder will help to prevent friction; ensure
that the boot is laced firmly enough but not too tight, to avoid any
movement/friction between the foot and boot.
