11th January 2012
Holiday Mull and Iona are hosting two day-long Eco or Green Tourism Conferences. The first will take place in Creich Community Hall (Fionnphort), on Thursday 2nd of February and the second will be held at the Western Isles Hotel in Tobermory on Friday 3rd February. Attendance is FREE. The conference is appropriate for all businesses whether directly tourism related or not and all businesses are welcome.
Green businesses are those actively engaged in making a positive contribution towards the environmental and social impacts of their business operations. At these two conferences our aim is to explain how green tourism can work for you. We will explain the many benefits including:-
Additionally, we will look at how marketing your business as a green business can improve your public image, improve the quality of service you provide and ultimately attract more customers.
Both events will have Andrea Nicholas from the Green Tourism Business Scheme as key speaker The Green Tourism Business Scheme (GTBS) is the major accreditation body for green businesses in the UK today. Joining this award scheme is an exciting marketing opportunity for all tourism enterprises across the Isles of Mull and Iona.
This will be followed by a session led by Moray Finch MICT Chief Executive. Moray will talk about his plans to update the current Eco Charter led by MICT and how this could provide a stepping stone to joining the GTBS. There will be other speakers and interactive sessions throughout the day as well as refreshments and a locally sourced lunch.
Over the two days, the idea is to attract as many tourism businesses as possible to adopt the green business ethos and to seek some form of credible accreditation. This would then support Holiday Mull and Iona in marketing the Islands as "Scotland's Greenest Islands"
Please do come along and find out what it's all about. If you'd like to attend either event, please contact Lara to make a booking or call her on 01972 510767. Places are on a first come, first served basis and numbers on both days are limited, so do book early to avoid disappointment.
Yours sincerely,
Holiday Mull
