"I'm lucky enough in my work to visit some of the most beautiful places on Earth and for me, the Isle of Mull ranks as one of the best. The land and seascapes are breathtaking and the island's wildlife is stunning - from the whales, otters and puffins to my favourites, the basking sharks and sea eagles.
Mull and its islands are magical and I just have to keep coming back for more!"   Kate Humble 14/08/06

About Mull

Geology, history, wildlife - the Magical Island MULL is one of those rare and fortunate places which seem untouched by the passage of time.

Island of diversity.
It is also a huge and immensely varied place.  In fact, the island of Mull has the greatest biodiversity of any place of comparable size in Britain.  There are 1,000 foot sea cliffs, powder white sand beaches and a huge mountain range with the highest mountain, Ben More, rising to over 3,000 feet from a very blue and crystal clear sea. The coastline alone covers 300 miles - and yet, living in this powerfully beautiful place, there are only 2,700 people.  The reader can therefore imagine that this makes for a very peaceful and wonderfully varied scene.

Island of intriguing explorations.
Spectacular oceanic views confront the visitor at every turn in the road and you can find a beach that may have seen no other people for days - or even weeks.  'Eagle Island' is an expression occasionally used by wildlife columnists when writing about Mull.  Golden eagles and the very rare white tailed sea eagle have their stronghold here, as does the elusive otter.  Dolphins, whales and basking sharks are seen regularly around Mull and the 200 smaller islands and rocky outcrops that surround it.  Mull is indeed a wild and stunningly beautiful place but it also has attractive villages and settlements scattered amid its glens and along its hugely indented coastline. Tobermory is thought to be the prettiest village in all the Hebrides.  The islands of Ulva, Iona and Staffa are other must see destinations - so stay a little longer.  Make time for a forest walk or perhaps hire a cycle and ride along one of Mull's hundreds of tracks and trails.

Island of magic and peace.
Mull is an island that bewitches the visitor with its amazing geology and its Celtic and Viking past but perhaps the most captivating thing of all is that the sea seems everywhere you look and every twist in the road presents yet another dazzlingly beautiful seascape.  You can drive or walk miles in a day and see few people if you wish.  Yet in the evening, the bars are jolly and fishing boats are bobbing in the bays. As so many visitors say, Mull is indeed a magical place.
